Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
AquaLog ("the app," "we," "us") is a dive logging and freediving training app. We designed it to be local-first: your data lives on your device, not on our servers. This policy explains what is and isn't collected.
Data stored on your device only
Your dives, species sightings, photos, wishlist, breath-training sessions, and profile are stored locally on your device. We do not have accounts, and we do not upload, sync, or store this information on our servers.
Data sent to third parties to provide features
A few features send data to third-party services only to make the feature work. We do not receive or retain this data ourselves beyond what's needed to pass the request along.
- AI species identification: When you choose to identify a photo, that photo is sent to our identification endpoint, which forwards it to OpenAI for analysis and returns the result. The photo is used only to perform the identification and is not stored by us afterward. OpenAI processes it under its own policies.
- Location autocomplete & maps: When you type a dive location, the app queries OpenStreetMap (Photon/Nominatim) and Apple MapKit to suggest places and show map pins. The text you type is sent to those services. AquaLog does not access your device's GPS location.
- Species wishlist search: Searching for species queries the iNaturalist public API with your search text.
- Purchases: Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple via in-app purchase. We never see or store your payment details.
What we do not do
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking.
- We do not sell or share your personal data.
- We do not require an account or collect your name/email (anything in your profile stays on your device).
Children
AquaLog is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
